The Food Security Bill, 2014 is a bill expected to lead to an ACT of Parliament that would give effect to Article 43 (1)(c) of the Constitution on the freedom from hunger and right to adequate food of acceptable quality, Article 53 (1)(c) of the Constitution on the right of every child to basic nutrition and Article 21 of the Constitution on the implementation of rights and fundamental freedoms under the Constitution, and for connected purposes. The Bill has been debated and passed in the Senate and it is currently with the Agriculture Committee of the National Assembly. The members of KEWOPA thanked AWSC for the work done on food security and said they supported the Bill which will be a key legislative frame work to address food security in the country.
