THEMATIC AREA 4: DOCUMENTATION AND DISSEMINATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The objective of the Documentation and Dissemination of Knowledge and Skills Thematic Area is - To establish a virtual resource centre for information about and on African women and African descent in the diaspora; accessible to scholars, policy-makers and other stakeholders.

One of the major contributions that the Centre would want to make to the study of the women’s worldview and perspectives influence the growth of the African continent is to create an African women virtual centre that will promote networking among the women studies units and centres in the region and make available information that is being generated within the region.

The documentation of women’s experiences and perspectives will contribute in filling the existing void in the body of knowledge. It will give opportunities to women who have impacted their societies, and also ordinary women will share their testimonies as a process of consolidating the women’s experiences and building a body of knowledge generated from women’s perspectives. The Centre will also create a forum of women creative writers to make their contributions in the form of short stories, essays, poems and other genres.

Strategies

  • Establishing a Centre with requisite facilities and adequate staff e.g. library, offices, computers, staff, enhanced African women studies journal; subscribing to other relevant journals and liaising with the gender resource centre;
  • Build staff capacity for the management of the virtual centre;
  • Establish linkages of the virtual centre with other women studies libraries and resource centres in Africa.
