THEMATIC AREA 7: GOVERNANCE

The objective of the Governance Thematic Area is - To manage the Centre effectively and efficiently.

As a new institution, the Centre considers participatory governance, women friendly management, cultural and policy environment an important factor in promoting scholarship research and advocacy on African women’s views and experiences. The Centre will strive to utilise women friendly consultative processes, participatory governance and ensure equity, equality and diversity issues are adhered to. Efforts to promote participatory governance and learning leadership qualities that take into consideration African women’s leadership philosophies.

The Board will work closely with the Director of the Centre and the Technical Committee in monitoring the progress made by the Centre on issues related to the realisation of the mission and vision of the Centre. Systematic monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of all the projects implemented by the Centre will be crucial in ascertaining the achievement of the stipulated goals and objectives. Monitoring will be based on Objectively Verifiable Indicators (OVIs).

Strategies

  • Promote leadership culture based on principles of gender equity and good governance;
  • Review and implement governance structures for increased efficiency;
  • To promote effective participation of staff in governance;
  • Support and maintain a conducive working environment.

Expected outcomes

  • Leadership culture based on principles of gender equity and good governance enhanced;
  • Governance structures for increased efficiency established;
  • Participation of staff in governance enhanced;
  • Conducive working environment established.
